More Information About Palau

GETTING AROUND: Many hotels offer shuttle services into Koror. Some restaurants provide transportation. Taxi service, car rentals and bike rentals are readily available as well.

WHAT TO WEAR: Cool, loose-fitting clothing is acceptable in most places. Visitors are strongly advised to respect local customs by NOT wearing swimsuits, short-shorts or other inappropriate clothing in town, villages or public buildings. Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are highly recommended. When exploring Babeldaob or the Rock Islands insect repellent is a must.

DRINKING WATER: Bottled water is available in most markets. Drinking water at restaurants is relatively safe to drink.

CURRENCY AND CREDIT CARDS: The official currency is the US Dollar. Visa, Mastercard, JCB and American Express cards are widely accepted in stores, restaurants and visitor facilities.

TIPPING: Tipping is optional, yet appreciated.

POSTAL SERVICES: U.S. postal service is available; domestic rates apply. The main post office is open Monday thru Friday from 8am to 4pm. FedEx, DHL and UPS international services are also available. For stamp collectors, there is a Philatelic gift shop at the Post Office.

LONG-DISTANCE TELEPHONE SERVICE: Debusech pre-paid international calling cards, for overseas calls, can be purchased at Bayside Palau B&B.

INTERNET ACCESS: Free internet access is available to all our guests during their stay at Bayside Palau B&B. Free internet access is also available at various internet cafes and restaurants as well as through numerous PNCC wi-fi hotspots. However, to access PNCC hotspots, a prepaid internet card, available at Bayside Palau B&B, is required.

MEDIA: There are four radio stations. Government owned Station T8AA AM 1585 Radio and three privately owned stations: WWFM 89.5, KDFM 89.9 and WPKR. PNCC Digital Television Services include basic and premium channels. CNN International, Fox News and BBC news channels are part of the basic channel line-up. Two newspapers are currently published in Palau: Island Times is published bi-weekly and Tia Belau is published weekly.

MEDICAL SERVICES: Palau has two private medical clinics and a public hospital. A modern recompression chamber is available and staffed by certified operators.
